Race Report

The Mojave Desert Racing
"MDR 250"
Barstow, California
April 1st, 2006

Well we finally made it back out there. We started back in the field and had planned on just taking it easy as we have had no test time on the #1722 Jeep. We cruised the first lap and got the feel for how the truck would handle as we watched most of the Jeepspeeds go by. Greg did a great job holding back the reigns and letting us get reaquainted with the truck. We stopped for a 5 minute pit on the first lap to check the truck over. Everything looked good exept a leaking rear differential. After adding some gear lube we finished the first lap and headed out for lap two. Feeling more comfortable with the Jeep the pace quickened and we began to over take a few cars. Still holding the reigns back we went around for our second pitstop. After finding everything ok with the trunk except some bent rear limit strap clevis' (bad location) we added more gear lube and finished lap two. Lap three had us feeling even more comfortable with the #1722 Jeep but as we crossed the wash before the first road crossing we lapsed in our terrain reading and hit hard on the far side of the wash compressing the tire into the front drivers resevoir hose (more bad location), pulling it forward and rupturing it at the coupler, thus emptying the shock of all fluid on the side of the jeep. After stopping to check things out we continued, resigned to taking it easy on the jeep and just finishing with only the coil and stock bumpstop up front. Around for lap three where we pitted again to check closer for damage finding a bent steering crossover and a loose track bar. After tightening the track bar and adding more gear lube, we were out for lap four where for the first time Gspeed Racing took the checkered flag. We were the last Jeepspeed to finish but we finished. We learned a lot from that race and only see things getting much better and believe we will be able to compete up front.

Gspeed Racing would like to thank Scott at Scott's Coach Works and SNF Racing in Phoenix for helping get the jeep back in shape, Gary and Kai for the dedication and pit support, and the Ghamari crew (Steve, Drew, Jeff, and Thio) for getting in the dirt and wrenching on the jeep. We had a blast and are looking forward to the rest of the season.

Next race is the MDR Superstition Series COYOTE "200" in Plaster City, Ca. June 10th, 2006
